FYI There are several new Natural beekeepers coming onstream in Ireland (especially Donegal), and I've agreed to dedicate a part of this website to discussions/resources centred around natural/bee-friendly beekeeping.
Some other ideas, are any of the following of interest?
-Dedicated pages for local beekeeping groups/associations
-Blogs for individual beekeepers
-Ability to upload photos and/or videos
-An ads area separate from the forums (I'm thinking of the suggestion from "Bees and Honey")
Queen Rearing
Swarms
Equipment - a break down as to what everything is, whats its used for and how to use it - could maybe go in to "how to start beekeeping section" ?
Hi. Here is my 2 pounds of honey worth. It would be good to have a page where you can put photos up of your troublesome frames or hives so people can tell you what is wrong. Also some where you can put offers up eg. we are joiners by trade and are going to be making hives this year and are thinking of doing a offer of Irish hives in exchange for Irish bees.
how about every member gets categorised…as in, when some one new joins the site, they start off as a “nurse bee” and the more they contribute with posts etc they go up the ladder so to speak. Maybe every 100 posts they get a promotion to the next stage in a bees life till they eventually become a “queen bee”
As there are a proliferation of discussion forums, I think what is needed is a for sale/wanted site (irish) along similar lines to BID4BEES
Richie
Thanks for the suggestion; I hadnt heard of that one before. Yes I do see that on our little site the sale/wanted area is the busiest.
For those who havent seen bid4bees before, its kind of like ebay for bees and bee supplies.
The url is http://www.bid4bees.co.uk/

there are some good ideas here...
-Dedicated pages for local beekeeping groups/associations think this would be a great idea - maybe put an add into "An Beachaire" to let them know
-Blogs for individual beekeepers - some people just love posting about there bees! again, another good idea
-Ability to upload photos and/or videos - i really like this cause some one could post a pic and ask others their advice etc
-An ads area separate from the forums - maybe do it by area - cork/kerry/waterford/dublin region etc
some other ideas....
- How to Start Beekeeping - give people an idea as to whats involved and how much its gonna cost.
- Disease/treatment page?
- Pollen guide?
anyway, just some ideas, if i think of anymore, ill post them! :)
thanks kevin thats great. im inspired to start reworking the site, just gotta find time!
no problem..
how about another section "DIY Section" where you could have planes for hives / brood boxes / supers / observation hives etc
i for one wouldnt mind having a go at making my own (would be cheaper!) and i think others might like it to! :)
if ya need a hand with the site, id be more than happy to help aswell.
i recently did this one for myself (please keep in mind that it isnt fully complete!) http://www.irishbeekeeper.byethost12.com/
EDIT: possibly more sections....
